Every year Pantone offers us colors that we expect to see prominently in the style world. From fashion to home decor, these shades will signify the trend of the upcoming seasons. The two colors for 2021 are Illuminating (a bright yellow) and Ultimate Gray. Expect to see these shades on the runways and in stores near you.
Why Pantone Colors?
Pantone began in New Jersey in the 1950s as a printing company of brothers Mervin and Jesse Levine. The company is best known for its Pantone Matching System (PMS), a proprietary color space used across industries. Since 2000, the Pantone Color Institute has chosen particular a color or colors as “Color of the Year”. Twice a year the company hosts, in a European capital, a secret meeting of representatives from various nations’ color standards groups. After two days of presentations and debate, they choose a color for the following year. These colors are seen in fashion, graphic arts, prints, household decor, and more.
Why Ultimate Gray and Illuminating?
The Colors of the Year are not just decided upon on a whim. Pantone chooses colors that often reflect the pulse of the country. Because of the pandemic and uncertainty in the country, the colors chosen reflect a sense of sunny hopefulness (yellow) and calm (gray). “It’s a combination that speaks to the resilience, the optimism and hope and positivity that we need, as we reset, renew, reimagine and reinvent,” said Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute.
How to Wear These Colors?
Yellow is a warm color. Gray is a cool color. Wear them together or as head-to-toe monochromatic looks. Based upon your skin tone, you can mix these hues in a number of ways for smart looks. Even if you not ready to sport either color as the main attraction in your garment, look to scarves in prints featuring these beautiful shades. As a result, you will instantly update your style in 2021. For more information on determining your skin tone and undertone, click on my post HERE.
