There’s no denying it; New York Fashion Week is the place to find out what’s hot and what’s not in the coming months of fashion. Retailers sometimes plan their entire inventories around what is shown on the catwalks during these few momentous days.
And that also goes for plus sizes! While we still are not equally represented during New York Fashion Week, plus-size events are becoming more and more common. Both major designers such as Christian Siriano and Adore Me and independent designers like Jon Marc, Shop Velve Dore’, and Syeko Design House are giving curvy girls more and more opportunities to try the latest trends.
1. All About the Accessories
Accessories were huge this year. Literally! Wide statement belts, oversized pins and brooches, and supersized statement earrings were everywhere.

2. Glamorous Gloves
There was a time when women had different types of gloves for every occasion, especially in Victorian and Edwardian times. Gloves were an important status symbol for wealthy women because they protected their pale, delicate skin from any kind of exposure to the elements that could link them to (gasp) the working class.
Thankfully, today all classes can rock their favorite pair of fancy gloves. Lace gloves, satin gloves, leather gloves, and elbow-length opera gloves all made appearances at this February’s New York Fashion Week.

3. Ultra-Feminine Dresses
Even in the midst of an increasingly gender-neutral world, femininity in fashion is still going strong with fabulous florals, luscious lace, and elegant draping.

4. 3D Dresses
No, you don’t need special glasses to wear these dresses. I refer to these as “3D” because, instead of laying flat against the models’ bodies, they jump right out in front of them!

5. Colored Coats
Boring black coats are soooo last season! Coats and jackets ported funky patterns, bright color combinations, and even multiple animal prints.

6. Faux Fur Coats and Vests
Faux fur fans rejoice! This was seen in multiple colors, patterns, and items across the runways, particularly in coats and vests.

7. Puffed Sleeves
I’m sure Queen Elizabeth the First of England, who was famous for her ultra-puffy “leg-of-mutton” sleeves, was smiling down from Heaven. Puffed sleeves were evident everywhere, even on some men’s outfits!
