If you’re anything like me, steamy summer days mean facing the impossible choice of either staying cool by wearing sleeveless tanks or camisoles or sweltering the day away by covering your arms. As we mature, gravity inevitably takes a toll and certain areas on our bodies begin to sag, especially if we are plus size and have extra skin there.
But that does not, I repeat, not mean we have to suffer! There are many options available that allow us to feel comfortable by covering our arms that do not lead to a midday meltdown. Here are 7 survival tips to stay cool and confident this summer! I am wearing a very cool SHEIN leopard kimono crop top. The bonus is the oversize arm sleeves for those like me who need the extra width. Buy the Kimono top HERE. Buy the SHEIN dress HERE.
1. Breathable Fabrics
Naturally, choosing light, breathable fabrics is rule number one. Cotton, linen, gauze, and eyelet are fabulous for casual, everyday clothes while silk, chiffon, and lace glam up any evening look while still ensuring you stay as cool as a cucumber.
NOTE: Lighter fabrics tend to fray more easily than heavier ones, so make sure to choose one with a tighter, not looser weave, to minimize that risk. And make them last longer by washing them with an extra-gentle detergent like Woolite.
2. Loose Sleeves
Cover-ups with loose sleeves like Georgettes balance coverage with breathability. I like the Valentino Flutter-Sleeve Silk Blouse. Purchase HERE.
Use a soft and lightweight pashmina or scarf like the SHEIN Floral Print Shawl Scarf in place of a stifling cardigan or blazer. They’re perfect to drape becomingly over your upper arms or even tie underneath behind your back. Purchase HERE.
4. Kimono Crop Top
5. Chunky Jewelry
Divert attention away from the upper arms with chunky bangle bracelets or a colorful watch. My favorite is the Betsey Johnson orchid bangle bracelet. Buy HERE.
6. Show Some Shoulder
Shoulders are the one part of our bodies that never seem to age so let them shine (and draw eyes away from your upper arms) with an off the shoulder or cold shoulder blouse like Lane Bryant’s Cold-Shoulder Ruched Side Tee. Buy HERE.
7. Get Glowy
Still want to go sleeveless? Invest in a great bronzer like St. Tropez Self Tan Classic Bronzing Mousse. Click HERE to purchase. A beautiful glow will slenderize your arms while avoiding dangerous UV rays from the sun.
Just make sure to exfoliate beforehand with a nonoily scrub such as REN CLEAN SKINCARE’s Atlantic Kelp and Magnesium Salt Anti-Fatigue Exfoliating Body Scrub. Buy it HERE.
