Experts say that the first step to resolving a problem is admitting there is one. You don’t have to fake fine. It’s okay not to be okay. As women over 50, we are expected to have it all together all of the time. During this pandemic, we are programmed to answer “fine” when asked the question, “How are you doing?” However, we are not fine all of the time. Coupled with the fact that we are plus size women, there is extra pressure to remain silent and not be noticed. After all, we spend so much of our time trying to stay invisible.
You are Not Alone
For many of us, when the pandemic hit, our problems with body issues became magnified. Now, we had to spend ALL day at home looking at an image for which we were not comfortable. You are NOT alone. I am here to say, exclaim, shout; it is okay not to be okay.
This moment is the time for camaraderie, sisterhood, and support. I belong to many Facebook groups where women are free to ask questions and get help from women in the same age bracket, with no judgment. It is refreshing to see so much release coming from these platforms.
