This message is simple. In a world where we are bombarded with images of what we should look like, who we should emulate, and how we should behave in order to be happy is numbing. Be brave. Be yourself. The first step is acceptance, including all of the flaws and insecurities.
When we let go of somebody’s else idea of perfection, we release ourselves from unnecessary trauma. I recently held a body positivity workshop for almost 70 brilliant high school teenage girls. My message to them was to accept their uniqueness, and block out the negativity, even when it is coming from their own head. From social media to magazine covers, we are continually being given an unrealistic image of who we should be. This message applies to us all. The exact thing that makes us different will make us stronger. As women over fifty, have we finally learned this truth as well? In a world of clones, to be different is to be the most authentic version of yourself.
